What Entrepreneurs Can Learn From Dancers?

There are certain skill sets and characteristics of professional dancers that are similar to those of creative entrepreneurs. Valuable skills of professional dance training are transferable to creative entrepreneurship. Today, there are many dancers who have turned into entrepreneurs, for instance, by making dance costumes or opening stores for dance related products.
The following are a few of those qualities or characteristics that are shared by dancers and entrepreneurs and/or are essential for both:

Work Ethic

Ambition and goals motivate an individual but a strong work ethic helps achieve the end result. It is the hard work one puts in that determines their success.
As dancers, one’s instructor can only show them the path to walk in order to achieve the goal but can’t walk the path for them. Sometimes it is the extra classes taken by dancers, the additional hours of stretching at home or engaging in core strengthening workout before class that matters.
A successful entrepreneur will often be the first person to arrive at the office and the last one to leave. It may, at times, mean working on a holiday to make sure that an outcome meets their expectations or constantly thinking about work day and night.

Another trait that is common in dancers and entrepreneurs is persistence. Persistence is the fact of continuing in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition and is an indispensable quality that goes hand in hand with success in life.

Dancers and entrepreneurs are resolute and do not give up in the face of a setback or failure to achieve a target or goal. They have the courage to persist in the face of adversity and disappointment which guarantees future success.

The characteristic of persistence or perseverance also makes dancers practice their moves and routines until they are perfect and makes entrepreneurs revisit and revise their plans for betterment.

Creativity is the use of imagination and original ideas to create something novel and purposeful.
Dancers require creativity as it helps them to express the music and story lines using unique body movements. It enables them to see patterns and sync their movements with music in order to communicate their emotions to the audience.
One facet of creativity is being able to make connections between seemingly unrelated events or situations and come up with solutions which are the synthesis of multiple ideas. They realize that every event and situation is a business opportunity. Ideas are constantly being generated about workflows and efficiency, people skills and potential new businesses. They have the ability to look at everything around them and focus it toward their goals.

Passion is another trait shared by both dancers and entrepreneurs. It is a prerequisite for an entrepreneur to be successful. Both genuinely love their work and are willing to put in extra hours to succeed.
Entrepreneurs work hard not only because they want to earn but because there is a joy their business gives which goes beyond the money. Demonstration of passion and motivation determines success in any entrepreneurial venture.
Similarly, dancers are passionate about their art which drives them to go through extensive training, long rehearsals and do impossible things like twirl sixteen times in a go and jump in the air with unbelievable elevation. They train both their bodies and mind in their attempt to achieve perfection.

So, if you are an entrepreneur, you can learn the above listed qualities from a dancer and if you're a dancer, you may not hesitate in becoming an entrepreneur because you have all the qualities required to be successful.
