Vyuti Dance Company brings you its latest work, Sakhi. The evening begins with a shloka dedicated to the cosmic dancer, and then Vyutis interpretation of an Alarippu, titled Natyarambha. Vyuti then goes onto present its new work, Sakhi, which celebrates the friendship between the nayika (heroine) and her sakhi (friend). Examining each of the ashtanayikas in their unique situations with regard to their lovers, the piece focuses on the essential, unconditional and interdependent friendship between these two pivotal female characters in the Indian classical dance narratives. It is inspired by the format of a Varnam. Weaving modernity into tradition, Vyuti examines the Bharatanatyam vocabulary through interactions between multiple dancing bodies. Vyuti concludes its performance with Revati, Vyutis Tillana.
